QC to build housing for informal settlers

ARLIE O. CALALO

THE Quezon City government on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) for a housing project for the city’s informal settlers.

Mayor Maria Josefina “Joy” Belmonte said the housing project will be built at Harmony Hills Terraces in Barangay Batasan Hills.

“Through this agreement, we hope to build many housing projects that will benefit Quezon City residents, especially those who cannot afford a home they can call their own,” the mayor said.

DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar lauded the smooth cooperation between the DHSUD and the Quezon City government.

“Cooperation among concerned government agencies was so vital, especially in projects that directly affect our countrymen, particularly those from the poor sector,” Acuzar said.

The project is part of the “Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino: Zero Informal Settler Families for 2028,” a brainchild of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. that aims to build 1 million housing units per year, for a total of 6 million housing units in six years.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to be the President’s emissary in sending this good news to our kababayans (compatriots) here in Quezon City, and in the country as a whole,” Acuzar said.
