Crime rate down – PNP

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it has recorded a two-day nationwide reduction of crime rate from Sept. 18 to 19, 2022.

Reports from the PNP Crime Research Analysis Center said the number of index crime in the country has decreased from 83 on Sunday to 34 on Monday.

A dramatic drop in non-index crimes was also observed from 721 to just 89 cases.

Index crimes refer to crimes against person and crimes against property such as murder, homicide, physical injury and rape, carnapping/carjacking, and cattle rustling. Nonindex crimes are violations of special laws such as illegal logging or local ordinances.

PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. noted that illegal gambling posted the biggest decline, attributing the positive development to diligent police work.

“We are doubling our efforts to sustain the momentum and to make the public feel confident about their environment. Life is beautiful when we live in peace and order. Your security is our responsibility,” Azurin said.

He added that the PNP was monitoring crime trends and steadfastly performing its duty to maintain peace and order in the country.
