THE Philippine Army’s chief nurse and a Maguindanao-based soldier were among the 10 recipients of the Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos Award announced through videoconferencing held recently.

Army chief nurse Col. Maria Victoria Juan, in her online acceptance speech on Thursday, August 4, talked about ensuring the “kalusugan, kaligtasan at kapakanan (health, safety and welfare)” of soldiers on the frontlines through innovative lifesaving measures and equipment.

Notably, Juan is also among the lead proponents of the Army’s first-ever air ambulance helmed by a critical care medical team.

“I dedicate this award to every soldier, nurse and other health care provider with selfless dedication and love for our nation,” Juan said in her speech.

She also played a key role in the enhancement of the Army’s casualty care management system.

Meanwhile, TSgt. Joel Tuganan, first sergeant of the Delta Company, 33rd Infantry Battalion, 6th Infantry Division, is a defender of Maguindanao peace and community welfare.

He was also hailed as the Enlisted Personnel of the Year during the Philippine Army’s 121st founding anniversary celebration in 2018.

Tuganan, a Scout Ranger expert in combat and marksmanship, in his acceptance speech, talked about upholding the Army’s core values of duty, honor, and patriotism while fulfilling his sworn oath of duty to serve the people and secure the land.

He serves as a training instructor and combat medic in operations against state enemies in Maguindanao.

The Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos Award is a career-service award conferred on exemplary public servants in the fields of academe, military and police service.
