CONDO FOR ILOILO CITY HALL WORKERS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

THE four-story Uswag Low-Rise Residential Building in Iloilo City for lowincome government employees who could not afford to buy homes is now under construction. The 120 residential units each have a floor area of 30 square meters (sqm) in two twin buildings on a 2,741-sqm area, which is a portion of the 16.2-hectare Uswag Subdivision owned by the city government. Mayor Jerry Treñas said the building is a P247-million housing balance compliance project of SM Development Corp. in partnership with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), which has approved its implementation. Treñas thanked the SMDC and DHSUD for providing affordable homes to low-income personnel. Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office head Rony Firmeza said they have been working with SMDC and DHSUD to fast-track the completion. “This shelter assistance scheme is not totally free, the beneficiaries will contribute each month for maintenance of the building, development of cooperative and livelihood projects, and contribution to the social development fund, all amounting to P2,000 a month,” he explained. The interested potential beneficiaries are asked to submit their social housing registration prior to final selection. The project is expected to be completed and turned over in 2023.
