Tropical Storm Neneng left several areas in Cagayan flooded and some families were forced to clamber up their rooftops to escape raging floodwaters, an official of the Department of the Interior and Local Government said on Sunday.

Michael Villamin, DILG officer in Santa Ana town in Cagayan, said that the floodwaters rose to five feet in some areas. The water started to rise on Saturday night.

The storm also left some villages without power.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday said that "Neneng" intensified as it moved away from the Babuyan Islands.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said that the tropical storm was spotted at 115 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan and was moving westward at 25 kilometers per hour.

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kilometers per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) number 3 was hoisted in the southern portion of Batanes, including Basco, Mahatao, Uyugan, Ivana, and Sabtang and the Babuyan Group of Islands.

Meanwhile, TCWS number 2 was hoisted in the rest of Batanes, rest of Cagayan, Apayao, northern portion of Abra including Tineg, Lacub, and Lagayan, and Ilocos Norte.

"Neneng' is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight.
