JERRY M. HERNANDEZ

THE country’s first electric cooperative-owned radio station started broadcasting over the weekend through the 98.3 frequency run by Radyo Kidlat ng Zambales 2 Electric Cooperative (Zameco 2).

In a statement, Romwil de Jesus, Zameco 2 officer-in-charge and general manager, said the station will assist the cooperative’s member-consumer-owners (MCOs) in providing vital information about cooperatives, especially those involved in providing electricity and the energy sector.

He added the project will also provide supplementary moves in promoting tourism in Zambales.

Radyo Kidlat is targeting MCOs in distant communities.

According to Rep. Presley de Jesus from the party-list Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association Inc., the association aims to establish similar cooperative-owned radio stations for the 121 electric cooperatives in the country.

Notably, actor John Lloyd Cruz became the first guest of Radyo Kidlat’s initial airing.
