MMDA lauds Bong Go

CHRISTIAN CROW MAGHANOY

METROPOLITAN Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. has commended Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go for what he described as his “untiring and unconditional service to his constituents” during their visit on Wednesday to the fire victims in Barangay Barangka Drive, Mandaluyong City.

“Our family is very grateful to him. He helped keep my father and mother alive in the hospital,” said Abalos, referring to Go, who serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography and long-time aide of President Rodrigo Duterte.

He also praised Go’s “humility,” telling the crowd at the Bonifacio Javier National High School that the senator responds to anyone who needs his help.

“Call him, he will answer anybody; he’s very humble,” Abalos said.

Go, in his speech, pledged to intensify his efforts to aid victims of disasters and others in crisis situations.

He and his staff distributed financial assistance, meals, food packs, vitamins and masks to a total of 105 families. They also gave select recipients new pairs of shoes, bicycles and computer tablets.

Go revealed that he told Abalos he would never leave the service due to his love for fellow Filipinos. He promised the public that he would come anywhere in the Philippines to help and leave a smile on everyone’s face in every time of grief.

“Only the Lord really knows the extent of human life. But let’s not despair because he still has many great plans for us. Most importantly, we have good intentions for our fellow man,” Go continued.

He also urged families to look after their health as they work to rebuild their lives amid the crisis and advised them to get vaccinated as soon as they can to protect themselves against Covid-19 and its variants.

“Congratulations to Metro Manila as more than 94 percent have been vaccinated. But let’s not be confident because there is another new variant, this Omicron, that is said to spread quickly. So, it is important that you are all vaccinated. Be injected on whatever vaccine is in front of you,” urged Go.

Go also assured the public that they may always seek his and Duterte’s help. He stressed that Duterte always reminds him to do what is right for the sake of his fellow Filipinos.

On Tuesday, Go announced his withdrawal from the presidential race.
