UKRAINE JAILS ACCOMPLICE IN KREMLIN CRITIC’S MURDER

A Ukrainian court on Thursday (Friday in Manila) handed a 12year jail sentence to an accomplice in the murder of a prominent Kremlin critic, as tensions spiked around Kiev’s ongoing conflict with pro-Russia separatists. Denis Voronenkov, a 45-year-old former Russian lawmaker, was gunned down in Kiev in 2017 in what Ukrainian officials believed to be a contract killing. The Kiev court found Ukrainian national Yaroslav Tarasenko guilty of complicity in the Voronenkov murder, Nadiya Maksymets, a spokeswoman at the Kiev prosecutor’s office said. Voronenkov was shot dead in broad daylight in March 2017 in Kiev, months after he left Russia after being accused of fraud and becoming a fierce critic of Moscow’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.
