‘ODETTE’ DEATH TOLL RISES TO 406

THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday that the reported death toll due to Typhoon “Odette” has climbed to 406. Odette, which battered many areas in the Visayas and Mindanao, also injured 1,384 people, while 65 are still reported as missing. However, according to the NDRRMC, they have verified only 96 fatalities due to various factors affecting their count. Some 8,709,417 people or 2,453,075 families were affected by the onslaught of the typhoon in 9,068 villages. There are 220,096 people who were displaced from their homes due to the typhoon and some of them are in 1,120 evacuation centers. Among the affected regions include Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, the Caraga Administrative Region and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
