HISTORY looms for the Philippine women’s national football team.

On Thursday night (Philippine time), the Philippines moved to within a victory away from 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification after scoring a 6-0 conquest over Indonesia in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune, India.

The victory in itself was historic as the

Philippines reached the tournament’s quarterfinal round for the first time.

The team also improved its record to six points behind two wins and one loss, good for second place in Group B.

Indonesia, meanwhile, bowed out of the tournament with zero points on three losses in the same group.

Midfielder Tahnai Annis led the Philippines’ attack, scoring two goals in the match.

Katrina Guillou, however, opened the scoring binge for the Filipinos with a finish at the sixth minute.

Sarina Bolden, whose penalty kick only hit the woodwork at the fourth minute, barged into the scoring column as she headed Jessica Anne Miclat’s free kick.

Annis then made it 3-0 with a goal from outside the box at the 56th minute.

Miclat secured goal number four with a penalty kick conversion at the 74th minute before Annis scored with a long shot at the 82nd.

Malea Cesar capped the scoring with a goal at the fourth minute of the added time.

The Philippines takes on Group A second seed Taiwan in the quarterfinals on January 30 with a slot for the World Cup at stake.
