Senators encouraged to work together for country’s goals

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go is encouraging his fellow senators to work together to achieve the country’s goals.

“Whether I’ll be in the majority or in the minority, I have only one interest and that is to serve the Filipino people. I will fight for the interest of the Filipinos,” he said in Filipino on Wednesday.

“In whatever group, or even alone, I will fight for the [Filipinos], especially the poor — our countrymen who have no one to turn to,” he added.

Asked if the Senate’s credibility will be affected by the fact that some senators are related to each other, Go said he respects the will of the Filipino people while believing that his fellow senators are individually competent regardless of their familial relationships.

“They were elected by the people. There is nothing we can do anymore about it. That is democracy . ... The result is already here and some of them are also former senators. And I’m sure that they are also very competent,” said Go.

“They were chosen by the majority of the people, which means that they trust them. So, that is the choice of the people and we have to respect it,” he added.

Go said despite the change in administration, he will continue to serve the Filipino people to the best of his ability.

“Let me reiterate, my vice is to serve the people, I will not stop from serving. Though, my capacity to serve or to help has been minimized due to the completion of the term of

President Duterte,” said Go.

The senator continued, “Then it was different because I had access to the executive, and we could easily relay the concerns of our countrymen for immediate government action.”

Go emphasized that all senators must be treated as equals as he urged them to work harmoniously in the Senate and to prioritize assisting Filipinos especially those who have been badly affected by the pandemic.

He also urged legislators to support and pursue policies that will provide a more comfortable life for all Filipinos in order to continue achieving the vision of the Duterte administration in the years to come.
