PNP to ‘refine’ drive vs illegal drugs

FRANCIS EARL CUETO

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said that the anti-drug war will continue, but it will be refined to include rehabilitation.

Upon assuming his post on Wednesday, Azurin said that he is also going to seek the help of the religious sector when it comes to dealing with the people.

He said that he expects church leaders to help them “nurture relations with the community.”

Azurin also said that close coordination with the barangay (village) chiefs and officials is also a must.

“I always believe that the barangay leaders know who their constituents are, so what is needed is that we communicate our offer of help. If it is necessary to rehabilitate those who are drug affected in the community, we must have rehabilitation.

We have Bahay Pangarap for this,” he said.

Azurin said the PNP will conduct an audit of the drug situation, focusing on areas where prominent drug personalities were killed.

They also plan to “liaise and partner” with other government agencies “to ensure that the supply chain entering our country either as transshipment or market will be reduced if not cut totally.”
