Save the Children asks for support due to earthquake

AT 8:43 a.m. on July 27, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake with a depth of 25 km struck in Tayum, Abra.

Preliminary reports from Phivolcs-DoST (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) and NDRRMC (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) indicate that this is a very strong and shallow earthquake, thus causing more damage to properties and infrastructures.

Aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 2.1 to 4.7 have been recorded throughout the day.

Save the Children has prepositioned equipment and supplies for emergencies, including the following kits: basic household items, water treatment tablets/clean water supply, hygiene and sanitation, essential items for newborns; plastic sheets and beacon boxes.

During these times, access to clean water is essential, so they have them ready, a water treatment unit with the capacity to convert 3,000 liters of water for drinking.

Save the Children is geared up for any emergency response to help children and families affected by the earthquake. While Save the Children hope for the best, they prepare for the worst. In any emergency, we are tapping for support.
