BACOOR FIRE HURTS VOLUNTEERS, THOUSANDS LOSE HOMES

DENNIS ABRINA

BACOOR CITY, Cavite: Thousands of families lost their homes after a fire broke out on Friday, August 12, in Tramo, Barangay Maliksi 2. Seven fire volunteers were reported injured because of suffocation from the fumes and are currently being observed in a local hospital. Fire brigade officer Edison Fetalcurin said fire broke out in a residential area and eventually spread to neighboring houses. With the force of the wind, the fire grew quickly and completely engulfed nearby houses. Fifty fire trucks responded to the fire which reached second alarm. SFO2 Patrick Paul Morales said it was difficult to control the blaze because of the small roads that could not fit the fire trucks as well as the flow of people in the area. It took more than two hours before the fire was completely extinguished. Currently, the cause is still being investigated. Families affected are temporarily sheltered at the Maliksi Elementary School, while the Local Social Welfare and Development office distributed food packs, among others with the assistance of the Office of Mayor Strike Revilla.
