More to enjoy in Singapore post-pandemic

CHRISTINA ALPAD

IF you think you know everything there is to know about traveling to Singapore and savoring it, think again. With the pandemic turning out to be no match to its people’s inherent innovativeness, here are all new workshops to try, food items to sample, and activities to enjoy on your next visit to Singapore.

Workshops at Sifr and Janice Wong Chocolate

Learn more about what goes into a perfume bottle with Johari Kazura and his Sifr Aromatics. The perfume shop is a homegrown brand specializing in customized perfume blends, small-batch perfumes and other scent products.

Janice Wong Chocolate, meanwhile, offers the “Bean to Bar Chocolate Journey,” where they literally take participants on the cacao bean’s journey to the bar. The workshop ends with a delicious sampling of Janice Wong Chocolate’s products.

Feast on food fests

No visit to Singapore is complete without sampling its delectable local cuisine.

Rethink that regular chicken rice experience and dine at the 51-yearold Chatterbox. After a major reconstruction in 2021, it is now located at Hilton Singapore Orchard.

Also, don’t forget to take a bite of Nasi Lemak and other coconut-based products at the Coconut Club along Beach Road.

The Open Farm Community at Minden Road is worth checking out for those curious about Singapore’s urban farm and restaurant concept. Though their dishes are more Western-inspired, the products used are all locally sourced in Southeast Asia.

The bar scene is another bustling experience to be had in Singapore. Potato Head at Keong Saik Road offers not just interesting cocktails but also delicious pre-drink burgers worth every calorie.

For the more discerning drinkers, head to Native Bar at Amoy Street. Ranked No. 14 among Asia’s 50 Best Bars in 2021, owner Vijay Mudaliar concocts some of the wildest cocktails that use ingredients sourced locally to please palates and spirits.

Singapore Sidecars Tour

Finally, if you’re hoping for an adventure outside Singapore’s already popular Universal Studios, the sidecars tours will not disappoint.

The first of its kind, this famous and award-winning experience unfolds on vintage Vespa sidecars, which take visitors around the less common routes through Singapore’s neighborhoods for one to three hours. For Crazy Rich Asians fans, be sure to ask for a side tour based on the Cinderella story of Rachel Chu and have a blast.
