Calamba gives out cash to youth, seniors

DENNIS ABRINA

CALAMBA CITY: Mayor Roseller “Ross” Rizal led the distribution of laptops and printers to 73 public schools here on September 16 and cash gifts for senior citizens on their birthdays.

The first batch of laptops, digital printers and office equipment for public elementary and secondary schools in Calamba was distributed at the Department of Education, Division of Calamba building as a proof of Mayor Rizal’s strong support for the education sector.

A total of 420 students also received P3,000 educational assistance each as part of the LGU’s education program.

Meanwhile, senior citizens of Laguna who celebrated their birthdays in July will start receiving a P1,000 cash gift.

Mayor Rizal said he believes that it is time to double the current P500 pesos that the senior residents of the city receive on their birth month.

He added it is appropriate to return the hard-earned tax to the people through these types of benefits.

Currently, the distribution of incentives will be through the barangay offices.

The mayor noted that this would be beneficial for the senior residents since they do not need to go far from their villages.

The LGU has so far distributed more than P1.5 million as of September 14 to 2,307 beneficiaries who had their birth month in April.
