HOG raisers groups received P5.5 million each as part of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) campaign to boost swine production in the country.

The DA Region XI (Davao Region) awarded the P5.5 million funding to the Gravity Irrigators Sustainable Cooperative and Farmingtown Landowners Multipurpose Cooperative in Santo

Tomas, Davao del Norte.

The project is part of the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (Inspire).

Under the project, P4.475 million is allocated for the biosecure house facility for swine, P525,000 for 75 swine heads and P500,000 for feeds and biologics.

Dr. Marila Corpuz of the DA

Region 11 said that the successful implementation of the program would not be possible without the active partnership of the Agriculture department, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region 11 and the local government unit of Santo Tomas.

Santo Tomas Mayor Roland Dejisica lauded the DA and DAR for prioritizing the needs of the hog raisers in the town, and emphasized that the local farmers deserve genuine service.

Representatives from the farmers’ cooperatives vowed to work hard in raising the hogs that they will be procuring since this will be an additional source of income for the members.
