Negros Press Club elects new prexy

Radio broadcaster Brian Morden won against two other contenders for the presidency of the Negros Press Club (NPC) during its 87th general assembly and election of officers at the NPC Building on Friday, January 20.

Morden, station manager of X FM-Bacolod, garnered 36 votes out of the 98 votes cast during the election, while his contenders outgoing NPC vice president Rey Siason of Muews Radio got 30 votes and Erwin Delilan of Panay News with 24 votes.

Elected vice president was Merlinda Pedrosa of SunStar Bacolod, who got 42 votes over rivals Jun Gaton of DYRL who had 28 votes and Rox Estrella also of DYRL with 24 votes.

Max Macahilo of Negros Now Daily was elected treasurer with 38 votes over incumbent Henceboy Cestina of DYRL who got 34 votes.

Winning unopposed were Prime Tejida of RMN-DYHB and Elsie Joingan of Negros Daily Bulletin who were elected secretary and auditor, respectively.

Elected to the board of directors were Jemlo Victosa of RMN-DYHB who garnered 56 votes, Mae Singuay of Panay News (48 votes), Marchel Espina of SunStar Bacolod (43 votes) and Alvin Grava of Aksyon Radyo Bacolod (38 votes).

The election committee was composed of NPC past presidents Modesto Sa-onoy, Glazyl Masculino-Jopson, Eddie de la Fuente, Chrysee Samillano, and Renato Duran as chairman.

Meanwhile, appointed to the membership committee for this year were past presidents Sa-onoy, Duran, Masculino-Jopson, Arman Toga and Dolores Epacta-Miranda.

The NPC, established in 1936, is the oldest in the country.
