PH, Denmark in talks for digital cooperation

BY FRANCIS EARL CUETO

THE Philippines opened talks with Denmark on the possibility of creating a digital cooperation and security, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said on Monday.

DICT Undersecretary for Public Affairs and Foreign Relations Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo recently met with Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, ambassador of Denmark to the Philippines, where the two discussed areas for digital cooperation.

Lamentillo said the Philippines can learn a lot from Denmark’s approaches on cybersecurity, egovernance, digital health and maritime digital transition.

“Denmark is well advanced in developing and using digital solutions. Danes get digital mailboxes at birth. New technological solutions help them address the capacity challenge of health worker shortage,” she said.

Lamentillo also said that the Philippines can pick up the best practices of the Scandinavian country in terms of digital expertise.

“Denmark is also a pioneer in digital shipping registries and digital certificates for seafarers on Danish-flagged ships. These solutions have helped reduce administrative burdens, lower costs and easier access to data. We hope to learn much from them in these areas,” she said.

The DICT is also exploring partnerships with other nations to further cooperation, exchange of knowledge, technical expertise and best practices on digitalization, among other programs of the department.

It likewise aims to provide Filipinos with the digital tools to help the economy recover and make the country more competitive, and to realize the vision of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. of a truly digital Philippines.
