SFC JHS STUDENTS CONSERVE WILDLIFE

LEANDER C. DOMINGO

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Isabela province has partnered with the Saint Ferdinand College (SFC) Junior High School for wildlife conservation activities.

According to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources, this partnership provides SFC students the opportunity to preserve species of wild fauna and flora.

Its recent symposium, done in observance of World Wildlife Day at the Balai na Ilagan in the City of Ilagan, discussed the interconnectivity of conservation actions from species protection to the ridge-to-reef landscape approach to biodiversity management.

It also acknowledged that students should be equipped with the necessary knowledge on wildlife conservation, learn about the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park through video documentaries and contribute to environmental sustainability.

SFC Vice President Charina Alejo challenged the students to safeguard the environment and be part of maintaining the beauty of the creation and diversity of its resources that God has entrusted to people. Presented in the symposium as the symbol of species to be protected was the Isabela Oriole Mascot.

Nestor Lorenzo, park operations superintendent, emphasized the goal of maintaining the health of the fragile ecosystem, highlighting “the role of people in all levels to recognize ways and strategies to get involved in key sustainability programs, given that these sectors share a commitment to uphold the environment.”
