The Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (Benro) rescued a juvenile Philippine scops owl in Sitio Manggahan, Barangay Pulong Buhangin, Santa Maria, Bulacan on Thursday, March 16. Benro department head Julius Victor Degala said they received a call from a concerned citizen, identified as Eliza Bazco, who saw the bird in their premises. Degala sent a team to investigate and retrieve the owl from the area. Degala said the rescued scops owl is approximately 6 inches tall and 700 grams in weight. He said the Philippine scops owl is considered to be an endemic species in the Philippines. Degala encouraged the public to report this type of wildlife capture to the authorities immediately. The owl was turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Guiguinto, Bulacan.
