5 killed, 11 injured in road mishap

Five persons were killed and 11 were injured in a road accident involving a fish delivery truck and a passenger bus in Gitagum, Misamis Oriental on Thursday.

Police investigator Junar Jarmin of the Gitagum police said that the truck from Zamboanga City was on its way to Cagayan de Oro City while it collided with the passenger bus bound for Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Norte in Gitagum, a town west of Misamis Oriental.

Jarmin identified the fatalities as Rodel Pantonial Pagasian, 38, of Tambacan, IIigan City and the driver of the Rural Transit Mindanao Inc. (RTMI) bus; Silvino Laping Flores Jr., 39, of Carmen Ayala, Zamboanga City and the driver of the truck; and bus passengers Thelma S. Galleon, of Bayug, Zamboanga del Sur; Lorenzo Losbaños Ejan, 82, of Bagongtaas, Valencia City, Bukidnon; and Margarita Galleon Tagalog, 75, of Labrador Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The injured were identified as Herbert Gaviola Bongolo, 41; Mario Dayuha Antapin, 31; Alvin Goloran Baldos, 26; Reden Ocampo Bagares, 31; Adonis Micabalo Ortiz, 41; Sherwin James Abachal Velez, 24; Danny Boy Galleon, 62; Jimmy Delisteico, 46; Glorio Andoy Pulga, 29; Maria Luz Cabillion, 58; and Alberto Oco Damasing, 61.

Jarmin said that seven of the injured were already discharged from the hospital on Friday while four are still confined in separate hospitals in Cagayan de Oro City.

According to the police, the RTMI bus company and the fish truck operator agreed to shoulder the medical expenses of the injured passengers.

Police investigation is ongoing.
