CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) here incinerated P18 million worth of confiscated illegal drugs at a local funeral home equipped with crematorium facilities on Monday, May 22.

PDEA Region 10 Director Emerson Margate said the destruction of the illegal drugs was in compliance with Republic Act 9165 or “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.”

Margate said the law mandates PDEA to destroy all seized contraband to avoid recycling by unscrupulous individuals and the public.

The destroyed illegal drugs consisted of 5,146 grams of marijuana leaves and stalks, 2,534 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), and expired medicines from various pharmaceutical establishments in Northern Mindanao.

The destroyed illegal drugs and paraphernalia were lesser in value compared to the P35 million worth of illegal drugs burned in July last year.
