Ateneo AGSB student council brings smile to Aeta children

THE MANILA TIMES

MEMBERS of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business (AGSB) Student Council and volunteers visited the Aeta community of Sapang Uwak in Porac, Pampanga on Sunday, May 21, to educate young students on proper oral health and make a positive impact on their lives.

The project called Project Ayli (“ayli” means smile in Kapampangan) aimed to augment the oral health care among pupils of Sapang Uwak Elementary School.

The Ateneans said they believe that dental missions play a great role in society, its importance in underserved areas cannot be underestimated — providing the basic needs of a healthy smile and restoring confidence to the beneficiaries.

“We recognize the lack of access to oral health care, and we want to give back to communities, starting with Sapang Uwak, as they have limited dental care,” project manager EJ Buentipo said.

Students from Grades 1 to 6 got comprehensive dental service, including prophylaxis, fillings, extractions (with consent) and oral health education.

They were also taught dental hygiene practices, such as proper brushing, and were given free dental kits.

Sapang Uwak Elementary School was also the chosen recipient of the outreach program conducted by AGSB Student Council in September 2022.

“The council is committed to uplifting the lives of those at the grassroots level. We believe in the importance of sustainable partnerships,” Buentipo expressed.
