SSS goes after employers with P1.93B in dues

BY FREDERICK SILVERIO

PERSONNEL of the Luzon Central 2 Division of the Social Security System (SSS), together with its branches in Baliwag and San Jose del Monte in Bulacan, made surprise visits to establishments owned by “delinquent employers” on May 25 and May 26.

These employers, according to the SSS, have about P1.93 billion in missed contributions that the agency targets to collect from them.

SSS Vice President for Luzon Central 2 Division Gloria Corazon Andrada said delinquent employers were given a 15-day grace period to settle their obligations to the said agency.

It is known that up to P144 million should be collected by the SSS from a total of 4,785 delinquent employers in Baliwag City and the City of San Jose del Monte.

Chelin Lea Nabong, acting branch head of SSS Baliwag, said there are more than 20,000 workers who should benefit that are not being paid by 3,319 employers, with unsettled obligations amounting to more than P103 million.

The SSS San Jose del Monte Branch will pursue P40 million from 1,466 delinquent employers for 17,596 workers.

The SSS imposed a 15-day grace period for the initial employers visited in Baliwag and San Jose del Monte who were unable to pay the correct contribution for their respective workers.

Therefore, through the campaign RACE or Run Against Contributions Evaders by the SSS, delinquent employers are offered to pay only the principal or the actual amount of the contribution and the interest without penalties.

Andrada said it is only necessary to submit an application to obtain condonation under the Contribution Penalty Condonation, Delinquency Management and Restructuring Program or CPCoDe MRP.

She said delinquent employers will save a lot if they apply to the program.

The delinquent employers in Baliwag and San Jose del Monte are only part of the P1.93 billion that the SSS is now pursuing from the 176,337 delinquent employers covered by the Luzon Central 2 Division Office.

Among the SSS branches covered are Baliwag City, City of Malolos, City of San Jose del Monte, Meycauayan City, Bocaue and Sta. Maria in Bulacan, Dau and Angeles City in Pampanga, and Olongapo.

Meanwhile, the head of the legal department of SSS Luzon Central 2, lawyer Maria Lourdes Barbado, said that the SSS, along with other government agencies, is already drafting a mechanism to ensure that no one evades the payment of contributions for workers.
