Semicon focuses on chip industry resilience

THE region’s premier event for the global electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, opened on May 23 to 25 with critical semiconductor industry topics including supply chain resilience, sustainability, Smart Manufacturing, Smart Mobility, Smart MedTech and workforce development in focus.

Themed “Boosting Agility and Resiliency for the Electronics Supply Chain,” the Semicon Southeast Asia 2023 exhibition and conferences happened at the Setia Spice Convention Centre and Arena in Penang, Malaysia and drew nearly 300 exhibitors and more than 10,000 attendees.

The annual conference gathered semiconductor industry experts and visionaries who discussed the latest industry developments, trends and innovations.

With the industry’s sights set on reaching $1 trillion in revenue by 2030, the event brought together chip manufacturing and equipment companies, private and public partners, and other key industry stakeholders to foster collaboration and explore new growth opportunities.

The CxO Summit at the conference convened industry thought leaders that provided insights on modernizing supply chain strategies in response to ongoing industry disruptions and geopolitical instability.

Focused on building a more agile and resilient semiconductor industry supply chain, the speakers included were Bettina Weiss, chief of staff and corporate strategy, SEMI; Lim Bee Vian, deputy chief executive officer of Investment Development, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA); Kent Rossman, corporate senior vice president of Global Operations, ASM; Frederic Godemel, executive vice president, Schneider Electric; Amarjit Sandhu, corporate vice president, Assembly and Test NAND Operations, Micron Malaysia and Singapore; Theo Kneepkens, senior vice president, Global Operations, KLA; Randeep Kapur, chief technology officer and field director, Global Industries, APJ & China, Dell Technologies; and Tan Yew Kong, senior vice president and general manager, Global-Foundries.

Semi connects more than 2,500 member companies and 1.3 million professionals worldwide to advance the technology and business of electronics design and manufacturing.

Members are responsible for the innovations in materials, design, equipment, software, devices and services that enable smarter, faster, more powerful and more affordable electronic products.
