Mayor donates ‘big bikes’ for drive vs criminality

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy has donated eight ”big bikes” costing more than P3.2 million to the local police force here to beef up the city’s campaign against criminality.

The big bikes were among the items turned over to the Cagayan de Oro City Police on Wednesday, September 21, when the city government also donated 10 brandnew Fortuner patrol cars to the local police here.

During his short remarks, Uy said his family, together with former vice mayor Rainier “Kikang” Uy, donated the big bikes expecting the local police to work hard to protect local residents and maintain peace and order in the city.

“Everyone of us here knew that my family was a victim of crime when my son, the late Carmen barangay kagawad (village councilor) Sherwin ‘Tawi’ Uy, was gunned down last year,” Uy said as he nearly broke down.

He said since then, if given a chance, his family has committed to help law enforcers in the fight against all forms of criminality in the city.

The eight big bikes would be distributed to the city’s traffic division to help in traffic enforcement.

Along with the big bikes, the Uy family also turned over to the police 30 handheld radios for the local law enforcers to enable them to effectively communicate with each other.
