‘FREEZE ASSETS OF TEVES’

EUGENE Y. ADIONG

BACOLOD CITY: Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo wants all assets of Negros Oriental Third District Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. and his family frozen.

Degamo, the widow of slain Gov. Roel Degamo, believes that Teves will use his wealth to pay officials investigating the case.

Teves and some members of his family have been tagged in the bloody attack on the residential compound of Degamo that killed the governor and eight others on March 4.

Degamo and Teves are bitter political rivals in Negros Oriental.

The mayor said she is worried that the congressman will pay some of the witnesses, investigators, and prosecutors.

“He will use his wealth, power, and influence so that the charges filed against him and family members will not hold,” she added.

Charges of illegal possession of firearms were filed by the police on Thursday, March 16, against Teves and his two sons, Kurt Matthew and Axel, in connection with three murder cases in the province in 2019.

While murder complaints were filed earlier by the Philippine National Police against Teves and five others over the 2019 killings, these new charges received by the Department of Justice pertain to the firearms suspected to have been used in the crimes and recently seized by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Teves has denied all the accusations.
