Globe prepaid eSIMs out by end-September

GLOBE Telecom Inc. on Monday said that prepaid eSIMs would become available by the end of this month, freeing customers from having to visit stores or arrange physical deliveries to activate their devices.

The eSIMs will allow users to install multiple cards on selected devices and use two phone numbers at the same time. The eSIMs can also be used in devices other than mobile phones such as smartwatches, allowing seamless connections under one mobile number.

This technology is available to cellular Apple Watch users, allowing Globe customers to go out with just their Apple watch and stay connected even without bringing their iPhones.

The prepaid eSIM initiative will also have a positive environmental impact, Globe said, eliminating the need for plastic and the logistics required for physical cards.

“At Globe, we’re always looking ahead, anticipating the needs of our customers in an ever-evolving digital landscape,” Globe consumer mobile business head Darius Delgado said in a statement.

“The prepaid eSIM captures our vision of a seamless, digital-first mobile experience, marrying innovation with convenience,” he added.

Globe’s share price was unchanged at P1,752 each on Monday.
