SPIN Art Gallery officially opened last September 11 at Cafe Lupe, Antipolo. To celebrate its grand opening, a spotlight was given to the extraordinary talent of Jun Velasco, who became the first artist to have his masterpieces exhibited at the said gallery. With the theme “Tactile Impressions,” Velasco’s exhibit would run until September 30.

Jun Velasco expressed his art through diverse mediums such as oil on canvas, acrylic and watercolor. He had displayed his artworks at The Manor at Camp John Hay last year. His watercolor masterpiece, “Igorota Hand Weaver,” was recognized as a runner-up at the 34th Kulay sa Tubig competition.

Spin Art Gallery described itself as an experience — a gallery that blended contemporary prowess and the timeless beauty of heritage art using art immersion programs. It is where artists were given the opportunity to showcase their culture through their masterpieces.

Behind Spin Art Gallery was Alvin Carranza, owner of Cafe Lupe Antipolo, and Giselle Oliquino-Besana and Jo Vocalan, the powerhouse duo from Catapult Art Events PH. Their shared dream of fostering a space where art and artists converge and tell stories that resonate across borders brought this advocacy into reality.

They were joined by Antipolo City Second District Councilor Lorenzo Juan Sumulong 3rd, Minority Textiles-Itneg Illaud Heritage Textile Founder Luis Agaid Jr., Lobien Realty Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Sheila Lobien and The Manila Times President and Chief Operating Officer Blanca Mercado at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the gallery.
